Glatstonbury CND Festival 1985 Spirit of Lennon Sweatshirts
We still can't remember why we used the image of John Lennon who was killed 5 years earlier. Perhaps we were influenced by the TV documentary, "A journey in the life" but we can remember Michael Eavis questioning the relevance. If Lennon had been alive, he would have been there though. This is the last in the GLASTONBURY COLLECTION which covers the period from 1981 to 1985 when GREAT ALTERNATIVE STORES produced the official festival shirts for the festival. The original was screen printed and the colours in the design merged together. This reproduction will be sharper but more distinct. They were all produced by using hand cut stencils...no photoshop here. I had turned up as the last minute driver for T Rex in Mark Bolan’s zebra stripe flock covered Cadillac at the first one in 1970 and stayed to watch, wearing my blue satin shirt made for Jimmy Hendrix who had died the day before. Entry to the festival was £1.
