The End of the World. The Most Political Shirt in the Collection.
In 1984, with the Cold War at its height and the CND movement at its most powerful, Great Alternative Stores produced the official festival shirt for Michael Eavis at Glastonbury — and this was it. Design number four in our Glastonbury Collection (1981–1985), the End of the World shirt is the only design in the series built entirely around the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament logo — bold, simple, and unmistakeable.
The original was an all-over print, screen printed using hand-cut stencils with colours that bled and merged in that raw analogue way. Modern print-on-demand technology doesn’t allow for true all-over printing, so this reproduction is a faithful front-print interpretation — crisper and more defined, but carrying the same urgent spirit of the era.
A Story Worth Wearing
Our founder's connection to Glastonbury goes back to the very first festival in 1970. He turned up as last-minute driver for T Rex — arriving in Marc Bolan's zebra-stripe flock-covered Cadillac — and stayed to watch, wearing a blue satin shirt made for Jimi Hendrix, who had died the day before. Entry was £1.
That's the spirit this T-shirt carries. Not just a retro festival tee — a living piece of British counterculture, music, and political history.
