The story behind the cartoon
Gilbert Shelton created Fat Freddy’s Cat in 1969 as a spin-off from The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. His strips appeared in the Austin underground newspaper The Rag and in Feds ’n’ Heads, which he self-published in 1968 and which was later reissued by Print Mint. In 1969 he also co-founded Rip Off Press with Fred Todd, Dave Moriaty and Jack Jackson. This Cover Up cartoon T-shirt brings that irreverent underground-comix spirit into your casual wardrobe.
