The story behind the artwork
Gilbert Shelton’s The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers became one of his best-known underground comic strips. In 1968 he self-published Feds ’n’ Heads, collecting work first published in the Austin newspaper The Rag and later reissued by Print Mint. He created Fat Freddy’s Cat in 1969 and co-founded Rip Off Press with Fred Todd, Dave Moriaty and Jack Jackson.
Shelton also contributed to Zap Comix and other underground titles, including Bijou Funnies, Yellow Dog, Arcade, The Rip Off Review of Western Culture and Anarchy Comics. His Set My Chickens Free cartoon appeared in Abbie Hoffman’s Steal This Book in 1971. This 3 Heads hoodie brings that irreverent comic-art tradition into your casual wardrobe.
