The story behind the cartoon
Gilbert Shelton created Fat Freddy’s Cat in 1969 as a spin-off from The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. His work appeared in the Austin underground newspaper The Rag and in Feds ’n’ Heads, which he self-published in 1968. He also co-founded Rip Off Press in 1969 with Fred Todd, Dave Moriaty and Jack Jackson. This Fridge cartoon T-shirt carries that irreverent underground-comics spirit into your everyday wardrobe.
