The Last One. The Spirit of Lennon.
In 1985, Great Alternative Stores produced the fifth and final official festival shirt for Michael Eavis at Glastonbury — closing out a defining chapter in the festival's history. The Spirit of Lennon design features the image of John Lennon, five years after his death, riding a bicycle — a quietly radical, deeply human image for a festival that had always stood for something bigger than music.
We'll be honest: we still can't entirely remember why we chose Lennon — perhaps it was the influence of the TV documentary "A Journey in the Life". And we do remember Michael Eavis questioning the relevance. But if Lennon had been alive, he would have been there. No question.
The original was screen printed using hand-cut stencils — no Photoshop, no digital shortcuts — with colours that bled and merged in that raw, analogue way. This faithful reproduction is crisper, but carries the same spirit.
A Story Worth Wearing
Our founder's connection to Glastonbury goes back to the very first festival in 1970. He turned up as last-minute driver for T Rex — arriving in Marc Bolan's zebra-stripe flock-covered Cadillac — and stayed to watch, wearing a blue satin shirt made for Jimi Hendrix, who had died the day before. Entry was £1.
That's the spirit this T-shirt carries. Not just a retro festival tee — a living piece of British counterculture, music, and political history.
