The T-Shirt That Started It All
In 1981, Great Alternative Stores produced the first official festival T-shirt for Michael Eavis at Glastonbury — and this is it. The Glastonbury CND Festival 1981 Globe design is the opening piece in our Glastonbury Collection, covering the historic period from 1981 to 1985 when GAS had the permission to produce the official Glastonbury shirts.
The original was screen printed, with colours that bled and merged into each other in that beautiful analogue way. This faithful reproduction is crisper and more defined, but carries the same spirit — a piece of genuine Glastonbury Festival history you can wear.
A Bit of History
Our founder's connection to Glastonbury goes back even further. He turned up to the very first festival in 1970 as a last-minute driver for T Rex — arriving in Marc Bolan's zebra-stripe flock-covered Cadillac — and stayed to watch, wearing a blue satin shirt that had been made for Jimi Hendrix who had died the day before. Entry to the festival was £1.
That's the spirit this T-shirt carries. Not just a retro festival tee — a living piece of British counterculture history.
