Shirley Russell walked into our shop and print works at 12 Great Western Road in June 1974 and asked us to produce a range of souvenirs to be used in the film, her husband Ken was making around the corner in Kensal Road.
We produced t shirts, beany hats, badges, mirrors, sew on patches and car stickers for TOMMY the movie, based on the concept double album by The Who released in 1969.
The film stared Oliver Reed, Ann-Margret, Roger Daltrey, Elton John, Eric Clapton, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Paul Nicholas, Jack Nicholson, Robert Powell, Pete Townsend, Tina Turner and of course The WHO. Not a bad line up with Pete as the Musical director and Ken Russell's screenplay.
